Reviews
Long live chapbooks and the independent presses that publish them!
About reviews:
-
We review prose chapbooks only. Prose-heavy hybrid chapbooks will be considered.
-
It doesn’t matter how long ago the chapbook came out; as long as it is currently available online, somewhere, it can be considered for review.
-
For our purposes, a chapbook must contain no fewer than eight pages of prose and no more than sixty pages. (Acknowledgement pages, title pages, or other ancillary pages don't count toward the total.)
-
Although we publish only micro prose in our monthly issues, the prose in an eligible chapbook doesn't need to be comprised of micros. (A chapbook's form is inherently "micro" . . . that's the connective tissue.) The chapbook can be a mix of micros, flash, or longer stories as long as the pages of prose don't exceed sixty.
-
Each review will be between 250-400 words long (yup, a micro review) and will include a link where a reader may purchase or download the book as well as links to the author’s other books, if applicable.
How to request a review:
-
Send an email to eic@claudineliterary.com with the heading “CHAPBOOK REVIEW–[name of chapbook].” Give us a link or a blurb or something illustrative so we can take a look.
-
We keep a running list of chapbooks to consider for review. We prefer to balance our issues somewhat equally between fiction and CNF, and thematically where possible, and will choose chapbooks to review in a given issue accordingly.
-
If we think we’d like to review a chapbook, we’ll reach out to the writer/publisher to obtain a copy–either digital or hardcopy. No need to send a manuscript with your initial email.
-
We do not publish negative reviews. We review only books we’re legit excited about. That being said, if we cannot review your book, that does not mean we don’t love it. We can only review 12-24 books a year . . . you see the problem, yes?
